WOW! Walk Once a Week!
Ballyclare Primary School is in the process of applying for their Eco Schools Green Flag award. UPDATE: We were awarded our Green Flag on Monday 19th April. We were the first school in Newtownabbey to achieve this prestigious award, congratulations to everyone! To achieve this award we were required to undertake an extensive project of our choice. Currently 39% of our pupils walk to school on a regular basis. When compared with almost 100% in Japan we realised this could become a fun challenge for our school. We introduced the concept of Walk Once a Week and encouraged our pupils to leave the car behind and walk to school every Friday. For each journey completed, we add 1 mile towards our 6000 mile target. Once we reach 6000 miles we will have walked the distance from Ballyclare to Toyama. We launched our WOW project with a 'Parade in Your PJs' day. Everyone made the effort to walk to school, while wearing their pyjamas! It was a lot of fun... and we even got our photographs in the local newspaper.

Five Minute Power Ups
Tomei Primary School are joining us in our promotion of a healthy lifestyle. They have set themselves the challenge of completing "5 Minute Power Ups" every morning. This is a selection of fitness activities that are completed each morning before school starts. For each week of completed activities they will add 1 mile per pupil towards their 6000 mile target. Good luck, Tomei!
