P7 York trip - Day 2

9th May 2018

After a super night’s sleep, day two of our trip to York began with a delicious breakfast in the hotel! We could all get used to that every school day morning! We headed off on foot to the Jorvik Viking Centre in glorious sunshine where we learnt about what live was like hundreds of years ago in York city centre. We went on a historical ride around a Viking settlement which was great fun! After a visit to the gift shop we enjoyed an ice cream in the sun.

Next up was a visit to York’s Chocolate Story which was a real highlight for the boys and girls! We learned about the history of chocolate right from Mexican tribes to Mr Rowntree and the creation of famous chocolates like Terrys Chocolate Orange, Quality Street and Kit Kat. There were lots of lovely samples to taste along the way and we even got to make our own chocolate lollies!

For lunch we headed to the park at York Minster where for a lovely picnic before getting a guided tour of the cathedral. Wow! The building, stained glass windows, spires and craftsmanship was amazing! The tour finished off with time in the York Minster Learning Centre and a quick visit to the gift shop before walking back to the hotel.

After fish and chips at the hotel (and a birthday cake for Eva!) we headed off to the bowling alley for a game of ten pin bowling. After a few strikes and plenty of high scores we headed black to the hotel to get a good nights sleep before our big trip to the theme park tomorrow.
