York 2019 - Day 2

8th May 2019

After a super night’s sleep, day two of our trip to York began with a delicious breakfast in the hotel! We could all get used to that every school day morning! We headed off on the bus to the amazing York Minster to explore the sights and learn about the history of this magnificent place. The building, stained glass windows, spires and craftsmanship was amazing! We saw all these on guided tour of the cathedral. Wow! The tour finished off with time in the York Minster Learning Centre and a quick visit to the gift shop.

After a lovely packed lunch, we headed to York’s Chocolate Story which was a real highlight for the boys and girls! We learned about the history of chocolate right from Mexican tribes to Mr Rowntree and the creation of famous chocolates like Terrys Chocolate Orange, Quality Street and Kit Kat. There were lots of lovely samples to taste along the way and we even got to make our own chocolate lollies!

In the afternoon, we walked on foot through the cobbled streets of York to visit the Jorvik Viking Centre where we learnt about what live was like hundreds of years ago in York city centre. We went on a historical ride around a Viking settlement which was great fun! We also paid a visit to the gift shop and got some Viking souvenirs.

After returning to the hotel for a delicious dinner of fish and chips, we headed off to the bowling alley for a game of ten pin bowling. After a few strikes and plenty of high scores we headed back to the hotel to get a good night’s sleep before our trip to Eden Camp war museum and the theme park tomorrow.
