Using ICT

At Ballyclare Primary School we pride ourselves on the rich and varied curriculum we provide in the use of ICT. From P1 to P7, all pupils will have the opportunity to experience and learn about lots of different ways of using ICT to enhance their learning. Pupils have the opportunity to learn how to code, programme robots, create film and animations, record music, explore the world using virtual reality, edit images and create presentations. We are proud that our pupils encounter all these experiences regardless of age - once we start P1 we are already on the way to becoming future computer programmers and film directors!

We have achieved many awards in this area - being one of the first schools in NI to achieve the Digital Schools of Distinction Award in 2016. We have also been shortlisted in the Capita ICT Excellence Award, which recognises innovative practices in Northern Ireland. Many of our teachers are qualified Apple Teachers and we are proud to have an Apple Distinguished Educator leading our use of ICT.

Our Digital Leaders programme has been in action for the past 12 years. This group consists of pupils who express a keen interest in ICT. They lead the way in our use of technology and support teachers and pupils as they learn new skills.

All teachers use the Seesaw app to communicate with parents on a regular basis. This app allows us to send home photographs, videos, links and messages to keep you constantly updated with our busy classrooms.

We take Internet Safety very seriously and teach our pupils using both CEOPS and Google Interland resources. Our pupils designed their own internet safety character in 2013, called EMOJI, who reminds our pupils of our internet safety rules. We regularly send home advice to parents on this area too, as we understand it can be very difficult to keep up to date with the latest internet crazes and concerns.
